Shawn Plain Head Professional
Shawn Plain CPGA
Director of Golf and Head Professional

Shawn joined the Team at Oakridge in 2003 as Head Professional and in 2006 became Director of Golf. Shawn is a dynamic individual with a passion for all aspects of golf. Most importantly he believes golf is meant to be an enjoyable experience. “It’s a fun game and meant to be enjoyed by everyone that plays.”

Featured in SCOREGolf Magazine© Shawn’s instructional style is realistic and relaxing. “My experience is simply this: learning to play well means a lot to all of us. Improving is always going to be relative to our own ability, objectives and dedication to independent practice. I adapt to the golfer’s needs and focus on comfort, consistency and results.” Shawn has coached GAO Public Player Champions, elite college golfers, PGA professionals, beginners and special needs golfers.

When asked what a golfer can expect at Oakridge Shawn replied “I want to ensure that every golfer at Oakridge feels appreciated for making the decision to play here. It’s what every golfer deserves.”

Shawn has worked within the golf industry for 24 years. He graduated Georgian College Professional Golf Management with honours in 2002 and is currently an Elite Class A Professional within the Canadian PGA. “When I realized my passion for golf I wasted no time turning a summer job into a career I love.”

That was over a decade ago and now Shawn has found a home at Oakridge Golf Club. “I want to provide an honest and valuable experience for our golfers. I am proud to be here.” When you visit Oakridge ask if Shawn’s available; he’ll be only too happy to personally welcome you and thank you for playing at Oakridge Golf Club.

Brandon

Brandon Ridding CPGA
Pro Shop Manager

I am entering my 4th season with Oakridge Golf Club and my 12th season in the golf industry. A Canadian PGA Professional, I am currently working toward my Class A Elite designation. Before joining the Oakridge team, I was the Pro Shop Manager at Black Diamond Golf Club for 3 years.

My goal is to keep improving my game, and in turn, help improve yours and introduce people to the game that I love so much. Golf is an interesting sport. I'm hooked on golf  - whether I have a good day or bad, it's always enjoyable. I think that is why I am an ambassador of the game.

Your experience is my priority at Oakridge. Just ask for Brandon!
Matt Anderson General Manager
Matt Anderson
General Manager

Matt has been around Oakridge Golf Club for more than 20 years, including the last twelve as General Manager.
He started as part of the greens staff back in 1987 while he was still a high school student. After high school he headed off to Seneca College for the golf course technician program to build the base he needed to run a successful golf course. Matt was the full-time mechanic at Oakridge from 1991-94 before he took on the Superintendent's responsibilities until 1998.
Today, he is proud of the work he accomplished making Oakridge a favourite amongst golfers in the GTA and Durham Region. Oakridge's scenic holes, it's easy to see why people keep coming back. After all, the Oakridge Moraine is the most beautiful area to play golf in Ontario.
"We give people value for their money," understates Matt. "Our goal here is to deliver an enjoyable golf experience at a reasonable green fee."
And we do.

Warren Moffatt

Warren Moffatt
Golf Course Superintendent

Warren Moffatt celebrated 15 years at Oakridge Golf Club last summer. Make that over a decade of creating Durham's most memorable golf experience.
Warren has spent the last eleven years as the superintendent.
He's anxious to see what the current season has in store for visitors to Oakridge Golf Club - if past history is any indication, it should be another great year.
"I think Oakridge stands up pretty well," says Warren. "I'm proud of the course, particularly the fairways and greens because that's where I work the hardest." Warren is particularly pleased with the results of a greater focus on the greens speed and consitency for 2007. Golfers were raving about the improved conditions. This year the course should be really good too!" Overall, I am proud of the whole thing, everything I see here."
Judging by the reaction of golfers in our poll they like everything they see, too.
"I take the course maintenance as a priority and every little thing counts. It's great to hear from the players too."

Please let Warren know what you think of the course by calling him at 905-985-0883 Ext. 125 or by filling out a survey in the Clubhouse.

John Frechette
Director of Marketing

While this is my first season as Director of Marketing, I'm proud of a 10-year relationship with Oakridge Golf Club designing print marketing material. A degree in Journalism from Ryerson opened the door to my 30-plus year career in advertising and promotion.

My enthusiasm for golf has been fuelled by watching Mike Weir win the Masters in 2003, the opportunity to stand on the Swilcan Bridge on the Old Course at St. Andrews Links in Scotland, and the chance to work each day with such a positive team.

This is an exciting opportunity for me. I love the challenge of finding new ways to promote Oakridge to our existing customers as well as approaching those who haven't experienced this beautiful course yet!

History

three logos

It's hard to believe Oakridge Golf Club started out as a gravel pit. The first 9 holes were constructed in 1985-86, with the course opening for play as a 9 hole layout in 1988. A few years later (1990) construction began on the back 9. The second nine opened in 1991 to create one of the Greater Toronto Area's most beautiful courses. This early Thomas McBroom design features bent grass fairways, elevated tee decks, eight ponds, over 60 bunkers and hundreds of mature trees. Elevation changes unique to the Oakridge Moraine make this course both beautiful and challenging. Oakridge measures 6,328 yards and plays to a par 71.
