Earth Day at Oakridge Golf Club Golfers at Oakridge Help the Environment
Port Perry, Ontario (April 22, 2008) - Oakridge Golf Club, a public golf course located 20 minutes north of Whitby offers golfers a public golf course designed by Thomas McBroom. The course is located in the Oak Ridges Moraine. Oakridge is pleased to announce that it will be planting a tree for every round of golf it sells on April 22nd . Golf Course Superintendent Warren Moffatt is delighted to be re-foresting an area on the golf course near the 18th tees. It will be signed to indicate that it was planted from the result of golfers playing golf at Oakridge on Earth Day 2008. The trees are mixed varieties of deciduous saplings approx. two to three feet tall, and will grow quickly as they will receive watering and proper care under superintendent Moffatt's supervision. "It is great to be replacing another previously maintained grass area with a naturalized reforested area", states Moffatt. The course has re-naturalized several hectares over the past ten years, and is now reforesting an area in recognition of Earth Day 2008. Head Pro Shawn Plain is excited to see another enviro-friendly program under way at Oakridge and states that the public has been very excited to learn that by playing golf they can plant a tree and in turn help the environment. They have been very supportive of the golf club's efforts.
