The FREE GOLF CORNER

Latest Winner:
Richard McEachern
Our last question was: "If you were to play Oakridge with only a putter and three clubs what would your three clubs be and why?"

Richard's answer...

"...A three wood because I feel best with this club everywhere, a sand wedge for a day at the beach, also a wedge for getting up and down. As we all know, when you are older it is hard to get up and down without a wedge."

The New Question...
How close have you come to a hole-in-one here at Oakridge? Write and tell us about your almost hole-in-one adventure and join our Almost Aces Club.

"The universe provides abundantly when I am in a state of gratefulness"

"We shared a special evening ... and played golf."  Andy Plane, Tuesday August 10th 2010

What a statement!  Especially the "and we played golf" portion.  Andy Plane and his son Justin participated, and won, our League Member ~ Friend Event.  It was a nine hole two person scramble and a tonne of fun for everyone.  I was fortunate enough to share a bit of the on course magic that may have helped Andy and Justin shoot well enough to win...but it didn't seem to have a lot to do with their swings.  Nor did it with bunkers, sand traps or score.  At the 10th green we silently watched a family of wild turkeys graze by.  We admired a majestic blue heron in statuesque pose.
I only shared in a few of the amazing moments that Andy and Justin did on their way to a 7 under par victory.

So, how is this a Pro Tip?  In golf we have an opportunity to enjoy and appreciate, sometimes be amazed by, the beauty that surrounds us.  Especially at a course set amoungst natural moraine within the green belt.  The next time you're playing golf and think about your score, swing flaws, the big bunker your ball is in the middle of or anything else that creates tension...look around.  Take a moment to appreciate where you are and the beauty that a golf course shares.  Its a game and we play golf to have fun.  Relax.  Listen to the birds...be thankful.  Then swing.

Congratulations Andy and Justin.  What an evening it must have been...
